How to test call forwarding

Call your business number from another phone and watch it appear in your dashboard.

A test takes about five minutes and needs a second phone (a cell phone is fine). Do it right after you set forwarding, and again a few days later, because carriers sometimes change settings.

Three test calls

  1. The forwarding path. From another phone, call your business number. If you forwarded only unanswered calls, do not answer your phone and let it ring out. You should hear the receptionist open by saying it is an AI and give your business name.
  2. A booking. Call again and ask for a normal appointment. Check you are offered a time inside your hours, and that you get the booking email.
  3. An urgent call. Call again and say something an urgent caller would, like no heat or a leak. You should get an urgent alert by email (and in Slack or Teams if you set that up).

See it in your dashboard

  • Sign in and open Calls. Each test call is listed with a summary and a transcript. The page refreshes itself every 30 seconds.
  • On the Home page the Finish setup card ticks its call step once a call has been recorded. It cannot tell a test call from a customer call.
  • Test calls count toward your monthly calls like any other call.

If it did not work

  • The call rang through to your own voicemail: your carrier's voicemail answered before forwarding. Tell us; we look at the options with you.
  • Nothing showed up in Calls: go to calls not showing up.
  • You called from the same phone you forwarded: call from a different phone, because a phone cannot forward a call to itself.
