What could your missed calls be worth?

A one-minute worksheet for any home-service shop. Count the calls nobody answered last week, pick your average job value, and see the arithmetic. It is illustrative: every assumption is printed on the page so you can change it, share it or argue with it.

Your numbers, four lines

Fill it in with a pen

Your phone's call log or your voicemail box shows the real count. Use your own missed calls for one ordinary week, not a guess.

A. Calls nobody answered last weekVoicemails, missed calls, calls that rang out after hours
B. Of those, calls from a new customer asking for workLeave out vendors, spam, wrong numbers and existing customers
C. Your average job valueWhat a typical booked job brings in before costs
Illustrative value a month = B × 4.33 × 25% × C25% is an assumed booking rate, not data. Use your own if you know it.

A booked job is not a completed or paid job, and not every missed call would have become one. If line B is small, the answer is small; that is the honest result.

Illustrative math, not a result

What could a few recovered calls be worth to you?

Put your own numbers in. The first table shows work that could be booked in a month if the receptionist answered calls that would otherwise go to voicemail. It is arithmetic, not something we have measured and not a customer result.

Illustrative monthly value of recovered calls by missed calls a week and average job value
Missed calls a week, and average job value $250 $500 $1,000
5 missed calls a week $1,350 $2,700 $5,400
10 missed calls a week $2,700 $5,400 $10,800
20 missed calls a week $5,400 $10,800 $21,650

How many booked jobs does it take to cover a paid plan?

Booked jobs of each average size whose revenue equals one month of each paid plan
Average job valueStarterGrowthScale
$250 2 booked jobs2 booked jobs4 booked jobs
$500 1 booked job1 booked job2 booked jobs
$1,000 1 booked job1 booked job1 booked job
  • Assumptions: 25% of those calls turn into a booked job, and a month is 4.33 weeks.
  • The formulas: missed calls a week × 4.33 × 25% × your average job value, rounded to the nearest 50. The second table is the plan price divided by the job value, rounded up. It compares revenue with the plan price, not profit.
  • What it leaves out: repeat work, jobs you would have won by calling back, extra calls billed beyond a plan, and any call that is not worth booking. Count your own missed calls for a week and use your real job value.

Illustrative only, not a customer result. Your booking rate and job values will differ, and a booked job is not a completed or paid job. Email us your numbers and we will tell you honestly whether a plan makes sense for you.
